Auditions for Finzi Scholarship 2014

AHS-LA annually holds auditions for our young members, to be considered for scholarships (meant to be used for their harp-related goals) awarded in honor of Valeria Finzi, a well-known 20th century Los Angeles harpist and harp teacher.

APPLICATIONS FOR 2014 ARE NOW CLOSED.

Applications for the auditions were accepted from young harpists who met ALL of the following requirements:

1.     Is currently a member of the Los Angeles Chapter of the American Harp Society.

2.     Resides in the greater Los Angeles area OR studies regularly with a teacher who is a resident member of the Los Angeles Chapter.

3.     Is not yet enrolled in college.

4.     Will not be older than eighteen years of age on the date of the Auditions (May 4, 2014).

5.     Must be available to perform at the 2014 Spring Fling, on Saturday, May 17, 2014, 2-5 pm in Beverly Hills, CA.  

(Please remember that, in addition to Spring Fling, Finzi Recipients are highly encouraged to participate in other chapter events including masterclasses, lectures and Music Ed Sessions.) 

Completed application must include the following:

1.     Completed application form (which was sent to members and was available online.) 

2.     $25.00 application fee, payable to “AHS-LA Finzi Application”. (Mailed with paper application, OR paid online.)

3.     Recommendation from applicant’s harp teacher (addressed to the Scholarship Auditions Committee)  in support of the applicant’s potential for development on the harp (Teacher recommendations may be sent separately by the teacher to the Scholarship Auditions Committee, and must BE RECEIVED by the deadline of April 10, 2014.) (Mail c/o Ms. Hembreiker, address is in member directory, OR send an email to the education chair.)

4.     Statement written by applicant (addressed to the Scholarship Auditions Committee) which includes the applicant’s harp education goals for the coming year and a brief description of how scholarship funds would be used if awarded.  (Scholarship funds are intended to provide partial payment for lessons, but proposals for other needs related to the harp will be considered.) (Include paper statement with paper application, OR send an email to the education chair.)

5.     Be listed in the 2014 AHS-LA Directory (which has been sent to current members) or otherwise provide proof of membership in AHS-LA (the Los Angeles Chapter of the American Harp Society).

Application deadline was April 10, 2014.
