The Los Angeles Chapter offers the Music Education program annually in conjunction with the (National) American Harp Society, which provides a certificate of completion to all participants who perform at both sessions.

This is an opportunity for harpists of all ages and all levels (especially beginners and intermediates) to play for an Advisor (guest harp teacher) in a non-competitive setting and to receive an evaluation with advice and encouragement.

Students play two pieces of their own choosing, of different styles (such as: Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Contemporary, Popular, etc), with a total playing time of up to seven minutes.
At the second session (five weeks later, April 3), participants will
perform their selections again, incorporating ideas and advice received from the Advisor.

This is a master-class-type setting: that is, in addition to their own session with the advisor, it is a vital part of the experience for all participants to observe and learn as the Advisor coaches the other students.

It often gives students a fresh perspective and new inspiration to get suggestions from someone other than their regular teacher, as well as to see and hear other students’ performances and feedback from the Advisor.

The fee of $25 covers both sessions (February 28 and April 3).

You must bring your “original printed copy” of the music you are playing for the Advisor to look at. No photocopies are allowed.

A pedal harp will be provided.  You may bring your own harp if you would prefer; no lever harps will be provided.  The workshop will be divided into two sections: 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. Performance time will be determined by the approximate length of pieces and logistics of harp set-up.

There is limited street parking around the church, but validated parking is available in the covered parking lot on Holly Street. After parking, enter the chapel through the courtyard with the fountain. The chapel will be open at 12:30. Please arrive promptly and plan to attend the entire session (1-3 pm or 3-5 pm). You’ll have only a few minutes to get accustomed to the harp provided, so be sure to warm up at home before you come. If you are bringing your own harp, you will be responsible for tuning it.

Participants and their teachers must be current members of AHS-LAIf you still need to join or renew for the current Sept 2015-Aug 2016 membership year,  click here.

The participants' family, friends and teacher are welcome to attend and listen from the audience.
