The Irish Harp Tradition - Unpacked, with Máire Ní Chathasaigh |
|
|
Wednesday, March 20, 2019, 07:00pm - 09:00pm
|
|
Los Angeles Chapter of the American Harp Society and Beach Cities Harp Ring are delighted to welcome:
The "doyenne of Irish harpers", Máire Ní Chathasaigh , (pronounced Moira Nee Ha-ha-sig)!
Máire presents a workshop exploring the wide repertoire of the Irish tradition - the music of the seventeenth- and eighteenth-century harpers, the "slow airs", songs and dance tunes - with particular reference to the special rhythms and phrasing characteristic of the tradition and the approaches to harmony and accompaniment that are most appropriate.
Particular attention will be paid to the specific fingering techniques necessary to create the ornaments that are integral to a stylistically authentic performance.
Participants will work primarily as a group and, since Ireland's is an oral tradition, will learn by ear and by imitation - though written music will be available, so if you prefer to learn in this way you will be accommodated.
Bring your own harp.
$35 per person
If you haven't already bought a ticket here, please bring cash or check (made out to Alison Bjorkedal) to event.
