On October 6, 2012, AHS-LA was delighted to present a solo harp recital by New York-based harpist Grace Cloutier (in the chapel of the First Baptist Church, Pasadena, CA).

Selections include works by Glinka, Prokoffief, Andrès, and two compositions by Los Angeles-based composer David Lefkowitz, written especially for Ms. Cloutier.

Composer David Lefkowitz and harpist Grace Cloutier. L to R: AHS-LA VP & Events Chair Allison Allport, composer David Lefkowitz, AHS-LA president Stephanie Bennett, Grace Cloutier, and AHS-LA board member Paul Baker, who generously lent his Lyon & Healy 23 harp for the concert.

Known for her expressive musicality and rich, warm sound, the young concert harpist Grace Cloutier, who trained at The Juilliard School, Yale University, and in France, gave her solo début and encore solo recital at Carnegie Hall. The New York Concert Review hailed her as, “an accomplished, poised, self-assured performer...her affinity for these works was natural and complete...[her] playing was dreamy, poetic and colorful...”

Miss Cloutier regularly performs for the American Harp Society, the World Harp Congress, and for the Ukrainian National Music Festival. She co-founded Ukraine’s International Harp Competition, where she serves as head juror of a panel comprised of musicians from Moscow's Bolshoi Theater. As a chamber musician, she regularly performs with soprano Jennifer Black (The Metropolitan Opera), Etherea Vocal Ensemble, and has performed with the Calder String Quartet, amongst others. A dedicated teacher, Miss Cloutier has held multiple residencies at UCLA, served on faculty at The University of Texas, and has recently been appointed to the faculty at The Hartt Conservatory of Music (Hartford, CT) in addition to her private studios in Connecticut and New York City.

Miss Cloutier maintains an active concert schedule and celebrates her recordings Radiant and Winter Solace (HIP Records, 2004, 2008), A Ceremony of Carols (Delos Records, 2011), Toni Dolce (Purple Critter, 2012), and The Harp Music of David Lefkowitz Works (Albany Records, 2012), and Hymn to the Dawn (Delos Records, 2013). Her CDs will be available for sale at the concert.

The recording of Benjamin Britten’s "Ceremony of Carols" that Grace recorded with the Etherea Vocal Ensemble has received rave reviews and was the No. 1 TOP CLASSICAL ALBUM on iTunes as well as No. 4 in the Classical Billboard Charts!
